We have a false
We have a false picture of how success happens.
We often see only the results and rarely the process of things. We tend to think that the finished product is impressive, and therefore the process must have been equally brilliant.
It’s usually the opposite.
Success is much less pretty when you see how it’s made.
If you wish to
If you wish to write a book, the single best rule is to produce “two crappy pages a day.” A book is created by carving out a small win every day—getting words on the page.
Books are not created through raw genius or spitting fire each time we sit down at the keyboard.
The best writers have routines that put their asses in the chair and create opportunities to move the ball slightly forward each day.
Well-being is realized through
Well-being is realized through small steps. This is why today, and every day, you need to think about little things. They are worth the sweat.
You need to create good habits and stick to your rules. You can’t make excuses for yourself by saying, “Oh, this doesn’t matter.”
Good businesses are also
Good businesses are also built by humble means.
Companies collapse or implode, and not even the bones or foundation remain because they never existed in the first place. They were fiction, created in a flash while no one was watching.
Trees that grow tall and live long grow slowly at first but then grow steadily. They may be vulnerable saplings for long, but once the roots are in, they’re hard to dislodge.
So it goes with businesses and net worths.
Many mickles make a muckle.
Creating anything worthwhile requires
Creating anything worthwhile requires deliberate, incremental, and consistent work.
In the beginning, these efforts might not look like seem to amount to much. But with time, they accumulate and compound on each other.
Whether it’s a book or a business, from humble beginnings come impressive outcomes.
When you are not
When you are not creating, look for areas to make small tweaks.
- How can the subject lines of your emails be better?
- Could your art be better?
- Where do you have leaks (of time, money, or energy) in your business?
- Are there habits or systems that are holding you back?
- What groundwork can you lay now that might come in handy in the future?
- What investments can you make?
